This EP is intended as a tool for meditation, trance and ritual practices and concerns inner wildness and animality. One may certainly listen to it for one's own enjoyment, however. It recalls the shapeshifting rituals of old shamanic cultures, wherein practitioners would don the skins of animals and enter an ecstatic state of trance in which they became the animal, the spirit of the skins or the master spirit of the species lending them their forms.
The four tracks are a musical expression of darker creatures from Norse and Magyar spirituality. Their natures might be considered horrific or uncanny to most humans. We call upon them to invoke an experience of nonhumanity in the listener. We recommend listening with headphones as this EP contains binaural beats which are only effective with headphones. This is not necessary, however, as the isochronic drumming is also performed to induce trance in those susceptible. The tracks each contain actual vocalizations of animals which have been time-stretched and harmonically augmented to produce the background electronics.
Listen at your own risk. Nøkken + The Grim assumes no responsibility for sudden change of species, growth or loss of appendages, such as tails, or negative affects on existing medical conditions. Included in this EP is the live debut performance at The Volstead in Austin, Texas for Me-Mer-Mo Mondays, an experimental series run by Melissa Seely.
